As we advance further into the 21st
century, technology is becoming an increasingly big part of our society. Smart
phones have become a commonplace with 58% of American adults owning one. These
technological innovations have changed the course of our lives in many ways but
in particular the way students learn in a classroom. Although some don’t like
the direction school systems are heading in, I find this to be a positive change.
In my opinion, using technology in the classroom can be very beneficial
especially since our generation is particularly more knowledgeable digitally. I
thought about writing this blog post because in class today we were allowed to
use our laptops. I was able to remain focused for a longer period of time. I
type faster than I write, and when I have questions that pertain to my work
only and won’t benefit the class, I can just look them up on the internet. This
way I am not wasting class time and it’s just easier accessibility of information overall.
Although we still use chalk boards in this class, most classroom settings have
transformed from chalk boards, to white boards, to now the technologically advanced
smart boards. I think many students could agree with me that a smart board is
better visually and draws greater interest than a chalk board. I also think
using technology in class is a great way to prepare students for the future. In
today’s society there is an obvious need for computer skills in the workforce. Working
with technology in class on a daily basis will help students acquire those
skills they need to be successful in their futures. I do think there are some
instances where technology in a classroom isn’t needed, but overall I think
technology is very beneficial to us, 21st century students.
I agree. My highschool required a laptop for school and used alot of technology like the smart board. Having a laptop at school was very beneficial to my education. Instead of having to turn in assignments by hand most teachers had us turn in papers through a website. Doing assignments on the computer allowed me to complete them quicker, and more accurately as I was able to look up information through google. So I agree with you, technology is very beneficial to learning.
ReplyDeleteI believe school could not be rushing into the future. Giving student laptops will most likely distract them as they will play games with them or go to social sites. Classes can easily be completely stopped in its track if the internet goes down. Easy access to answers will greatly decrease the intelligence of our students. We will need to teach every teacher how to use the technology properly.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree that technology is useful and beneficial in classroom setting. By using technology everyday, just like practicing for a sport during and out of season, students will become better suited for their careers. I keep having conversations with my step brother and other recent college graduates and they are stressing the importance of having computer skills. Being proficient in Microsoft Applications is not always enough. My step brother is using coding in his job and he majored in econ. It is beneficial for every profession to know how to use their computers. In the classroom setting and having teachers actually use technology for assignments and in class learning students will be better prepared for their futures.
ReplyDeleteI agree as well. While when laptops and technology are allowed in class there are always the few who use them for things they are not meant to, it is hurting only them. When I have my computer out I also find it far easier to pay attention and keep up. Everything else we do is extremely technology based, yet most of my classes still do not allow that same tech they expect me to use outside of class in it. And, as Brien said, most every career we are going into will expect technology to be used in it. If we are not predispositioned to use our devices in a setting where we also need to focus on what is going on around us, how are we meant to succeed? I think that we are the very much the shifting phase. My youngest brother went to my elementary school and now my middle school, and they are provided with devices that they use for everything. He is nearly as tech savvy as I am now, and he is 7 years younger than I am. Technology is becoming a very large part of life as we know it, and I think it is very important that our classes begin to incorporate that.
