Rhetoric is life

While contemplating what to write on this blog, I came to a realization: rhetoric runs lives. It's all around us, and it defines who we are as people. As people become more connected, it is only becoming more prominent in our lives. Rhetoric is constantly used by politicians, businesses,  non-profit organizations, and many other groups to convince us on their cause or to buy their products. The rhetoric we allow to affect us impacts all aspects of our lives, whether it be family, economic situations, or simply one's perspectives on life.  This rhetoric we are constantly being bombarded with dictates every aspect of our lives.
I think it is good to be conscious of the rhetoric all around us, the same rhetoric which at times takes advantage of our emotions, our logic, and our ethics. We can all be wiser and smarter people once this is done. This is definitely one thing I am glad this class made me realize.

  1. I agree that it would be beneficial to us to pay attention to the rhetoric that is present in our lives everyday. Knowing what rhetoric is and how to use it will also help us to write more effective papers paying attention to the audience, context, and purpose.

  2. I agree that understanding rhetoric is a key part of life, in both professional and personal settings. Whether it is convincing your friends you are correct in an argument or even understanding political debates, we are using and see rhetoric. I find it interesting just how many places I see it now.

  3. Rhetoric is very important, especially with communicating. I think it's a basic skill that everyone should be aware of. Which is probably why this is an entry level class that is required to be taken, because it is so useful.

  4. Now that I have been through this class and learned the different aspects of rhetoric I am seeing it all around me. It is everywhere and I am very glad I learned about it. I am also glad that I know how to use it. It is definitely a skill everyone should have made available to them.

    1. So am I! It has made me much more critical of the world around me. I know longer fall for things I would hear in the media, which was something I used to do when I was younger.
