The first assignment, 1.1 asked us to identify a few things
we care about, point out how these things are underserved, obstructed, or could
be better perpetuated in our community.
The purpose for this assignment was to just get us to think of potential
topics for our advocacy projects. At first I didn’t really understand what was
being asked of me, until an example was given.
Overall this was an easy assignment that helped me narrow down what
topic I wanted to choose for my project.
The second assignment, 1.2 asked us to explain what our role
was in the issues we had identified. The prompt asked a bunch of questions,
that many students, including me, thought were rhetorical, and just there to
help guide what we were writing. So, I think that it would be nice if it was
pointed out that these questions needed to be answered in our assignment.
1.3 asked us to choose a topic to write on for the project,
and identify the audience for it. I
think that this assignment was hard in a way and easy at the same time. My
topic affected everyone basically, so it was hard to show what exactly the
audience was. One part of the prompt I
failed to understand was, “you will identify not only the audience for your final
proposal of law but also your audience for your broad appeal”. I don’t know how
to distinguish my audience for the proposal of law to the audience for the
broad appeal.
These assignments built off each other which I
liked. But some parts were confusing. If examples were included somehow in the prompt,
it would have cleared a lot of things up
I agree with your assessment of our assignments. They were interesting to think and write about, but the requirements were somewhat confusing. I, like you, thought the questions were there to guide our writing. I felt that I did a good job responding to the prompt, but my grade did not reflect that. When I went back and rewrote the assignments to turn it again, I felt like the quality of my writing decreased when I answered the questions explicitly, like I was trying to force the writing.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Michael, that our assignments are difficult to understand. I feel that for assignments that were supposed to be reflective of our own personal interests and thinking about what was important to us, it was not very clear. I feel like that for as an assignment that was supposed to be an easy, learning activity it was graded harshly with little to no guidance. It was the first few assignments and for an intro level class, there should have been more explanation, rather than expecting us to know what to do.
ReplyDeleteI like that the assignments are built off of each other but I also have a tendency to get a bit bored working with the same information again and again, even if we are taking different perspectives and writing different things about it each time. I also found same as David a bit of trouble in explicitly answering each question. I liked once we were given a rubric for the research portion of our proposal because it gave me specific guidelines for what was being asked of me.
