Always #LikeAGirl
This video compares how little girls and young women respond to the saying 'like a girl.' It first starts with young women and little girls being told to 'run like a girl' or 'throw like a girl.' The group of young women begin to throw weakly or run with little intensity, compared to the little girls, who when told to do the same thing ran and threw with power and confidence. The point of this video is to show how a girls confidence is lowered during puberty, and promote confidence among all women.
This commercial uses pathos, because I feel like feminism is pressing issue in today's culture and more and more women are feeling empowered.

I really liked this commercial as well, it's one of the few that really stuck out to me watching the Super bowl this weekend. I don't think it's a new commercial, actually, because watching it during the Super bowl and starting to get annoyed at the beginning, I remember very clearly thinking that wait, this wasn't a bad commercial, and that I remembered it. I think that this really speaks to the marketing of it. It elicited, at least in me, a very memorable emotional response that it revived upon seeing the commercial again. I think it was well done and not overstated. It didn't particularly speak it's point about feminism and girls being just as capable as guys, but it showed it very clearly and again, at least for me, left a very positive emotional response in its wake.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with the statement that it was not overly feminist. As a male I did not feel like we were being targeted in an aggressive manner. I thought the presentation was a great mix of being lighthearted and also very serious. Lots of the commercials during the Super Bowl were a little too intense in my opinion, especially since the tradition for Super Bowl commercials has been to focus on humor.
ReplyDeleteI remembered watching this ad during the Super Bowl and it portrayed a very strong message about what it means to be a girl. The commercials previous to this ad were light-hearted and funny as I was laughing with all of my friends. However, when they showed this ad, the room became silent as the message hit many of the people in the room. I believe that the reason the message hit so strong was because of the use of rhetoric appeal. I agree that the use of pathos is prominent because it compares the perception of girls to the reality of what it really means to be a girl. The commercial uses real little girls which draws more emotional appeal to the subject. The comparison of how a girl runs to how she actually runs also appeals to emotion because it sheds light to the reality of the situation.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this commercial. It pointed out a changing view of the confidence that women possess. It is important for girls, as they grow up, to be confident that they can do anything and shouldn't let stereotypes pin them down. Women can do as much if not more than men in many situations.
