Why Are We Not Posting to the Blog?

It is kind of amazing how few of us are making blog posts. For something so important to our grade, we should be jumping at the opportunity for basically free points.  I mean, c'mon, I'm writing a blog post about how we are making blog posts.  We should be much more proactive about earning these points.  I know that in my own experience, I think about the blog posts when I am not around my computer, or when I am working on something else, but I don't remember to write posts when I have the time do them.  I think that in my own life, there are two main problems that contribute to this forgetfulness.  First of all, I am not very organized.  I'll be the first to admit that I oftentimes do not know when things are due.  I rely a lot on my friends to remind me what is due tomorrow.  Unfortunately, I don't see anybody in this class outside of class, so I don't have that luxury in this class. I should really have some sort of planner so that I can remind myself to do the blog posts.  Another problem that I have is that I procrastinate. I am one of the biggest procrastinators I know.  Unfortunately, that doesn't always work out for me.  Whenever I think about doing a blog post, I always think to myself that I'll do it later.  And that's I forget to do it, because I'm focused on other things.  What I need to do is be proactive, and not put off my blog posts until right before they are due.  Another problem that I have specifically with these blog posts is that I do not place enough importance in them.  I focus on other classes that I find more "important," or even other assignments for this class.  I work on getting those assignments done, and the blog posts just slip right past my mind.  This very thing happened last night, as I was studying for a test, and completely forgot about the blog, even though I had thought about it earlier in the day.  This will however, really affect my grade in this class, so it needs to stop happening.  Not only have I forgotten to write blog posts, but I also forget to comment on others.  It is simply baffling to me how I keep forgetting to get simple points like this.  Unfortunately, these are points that I cannot get back.  I can't keep doing this, and if anybody else in the class is having these problems, you need to shape up right along with me.

  1. Although I agree we should be much more proactive about earning points and writing frequently on the blog, it is hard for me to come up with ideas of what to write about. I would rather have a more structured blog than be able to write about anything we want, because then I would have some sort of format to follow. I am already having a hard time coming up with my next blog post idea.

  2. I think its hard to think of stuff to post too . Some of the bonus posts are easy to do so i'd defiantly do those when they are available. To help remind you that you need to do them you can put an event in your phone that repeats weekly reminding you to do them.

  3. I agree that it is hard to think of posts. As soon as I have an idea it is very simple to jot it down and post it up, but ideas don't particularly like to be sought after. I weirdly am having a bit more trouble commenting than I am posting. Every time I comment I really just find myself agreeing with and basically restating everything the original post-writer has already said. These are easy points but they do require thought behind them and actually sitting down and thinking about rhetoric for something that isn't class or exactly an assignment. I think that is where the trouble lies, at least for me.

  4. I also find it strange that we have such a huge amount of topics to pick from but we often find ourselves at a loss for words. I like to think that the reason why we cannot think of anything to say is because we are overthinking what to say. Oftentimes the broadest topics are the hardest for me since I feel like I need to pick the best subtopic out of the bunch.

  5. I also think that the freedom that comes with being able to choose from a wide variety of topics is nice, however it is very hard to come up with such an original idea with no prompt. If we had a general topic or idea that we had to write about we would have some sort of direction right away as opposed to having to sit down and take the time to think of an idea.

  6. I agree with this post and the previous comments that sometimes writing about anything related to a class is to too broad of a topic. It become difficult to find ideas to write about and elaborate upon in 250 words. However, I did see the post from Professor Strickland and I believe prompts are a good way to generate ideas for these posts. Additionally, answering these prompts can also aid for out assignments for this class because I know I had a difficult time following the prompts for the first few assignments. I also agree that many times it seems that I put off the blog posts to concentrate on other classes. Therefore, it seems like I am waiting until 12:00 AM on Sunday night to comment, like now. In order to change this, I believe that I need to use a break during my classes or some other time in order to make a comment because it is easy points that does not require a vast amount of time. I also liked the idea of starting a blog post in class because it pushed the students to write a post and comment and be more proactive in blogs.

  7. I do agree that this assignment is simple, sometimes finding a topic in the broad subject of the world is difficult. To be honest, I feel that one of the main reasons I do not post on the blog as much as I should is because I always tell myself I am going to do it over the weekend. It then comes to be around Sunday night at 11:50 like it is now, and while I am studying or doing some other homework, I realize that a blog post is due. Then (like now) I am scrambling to get my participation for the comment in and brush off the actual blog post till a later time. I think the blog is just an aspect of this class that is hard to remember in our daily work, and we should really work on posting in it more.
